Maths Dept

Friends and relatives who hear that I am studying Mathematics usually give me the first reaction of "maths?!?!?! WHY?" Here's the reason.

I can't do Humanities for nuts. cos i can't really write very well. Econs was out cos of torturous Marhaini in AC (haha.. ok. she wasn't THAT bad, but econs was still my worst A'Level subject.) so, stuck with Science Fac. Physics is out cos i never did physics after sec2. YES... totally no physics background. i don't even know what's e=mc(square). I was way tooooo stupid in sec 2. didn't managed to get into physics-chem classes in sec 3. but who cares?! i've been more than happy doing bio-chem! and i love bio too cos it's so interesting! ok... so, why not bio and chemistry degree? hee hee... try imagine staying in the lab for 6 hours. SIAO ah! okok.. it's not for me. those doing bio and chem, no bad feelings k? it's just that i seriously don't think i'll wanna stay in the lab for such a big portion of my uni life. so, yeah. (kinda) left with MATHS lor!

It was tough at first... but it got interesting. Maths in uni does not deal with solving 1+1=2. it deals with WHY 1+1=2, and stuff liddat. shall not elaborate. Anyway, things are still tough, and i don't really do well in my course. i think my course mods average at B-. quite jialat, but at least, i still have interest in it.

Anyway, i went to the maths department yesterday to look for my SEP coordinator. he's the person who signs my form, and then tada! i'll get my module mapping done. I must say that i am very impressed by his sincerity to help. the list of course modules i provided him was in German. He came from taiwan. It came a time when both of us didn't understand some words... and guess wat? he just called another prof in to help! ok... maybe they are too free, got nothing to do. but sometimes, not my business, i got time, i also won't help. but these profs, 2 of them, just took time off to slowly read my list of German modules. and helped me with the mapping! I could really give a sigh of relief. cos things are falling into place. I'm so thankful to them.. Also, looking at the books in their room makes me wanna go further in pursuing mathematics. They are so into the subject they have shelves of books. Maybe, one day... if i'm passionate enough.

So, i took the first step in approaching my profs for help in module mapping. and this morning, to my surprise as if it's all planned, i received reply from the partner uni maths department!!!!!!!! WAH...... so excited! and my profs were right in predicting the module mapping. who in the world can guess that Optimierung will be mapped to NUS as non-linear programming? my prof said that i could map it as optimization since it sounds similar. well, it's up to me to map which ever i want. wheeeee.....

Yes... so, after everything, i shall say that, people who do maths are nice. modules may sound cheeeeem, but they are interesting. and so far, i've had pretty nice maths prof/lecturers. they are generally approachable. their lectures may suck. but come to think of it, i've survived. okok... maybe EXCEPT financial mathematics and Calculus. i may not have done fantastically well for the rest, but yeah. they're not tooo bad.

i shall do clear my module mapping now, so that i can cancel it off my list. 30 more days....
